Equipped With a Hot Glue Gun, New Robot Builds Its Own Custom Tools

The robotic whiz teams at ETH Zurich are giving robots the ability to build any new tool for itself, whenever it might be needed. This just comes with a hot glue gun, which the robot uses like a low-tech 3-D printer. This robot uses hot glue to form a base and sides of a cup one layer at a time, much like a 3-D printer would sinter materials one layer at a time. The robot also builds a handle and attaches it to the cup so it can tote the water vessel between two separate containers. The designers of this robot said that the future versions of this robot would be able to figure out exactly what type of tool is needed for a given task, and be able to design and build any tool needed for the job.

Herb the Robot Butler

Robotic programmers at Carnegie Mellon University have created a robot butler named Herb. This robot is designed to bring robots out of the factories and into your homes. Herb is a humanoid robot built on a Segway platform , which uses spinning lasers that produce 40,000 points per second to produce a three dimensional view of the environment. This way it can navigate threw a kitchen or any other environment designed for people.

ExoHand

ExoHand  is a exoskeleton controlled robot that is controlled by gloves that use 3-D print for precise fit, feel, and control. This robot works by taking a scan of the user’s hand and printing a custom-fit glove out of polyamide plastic that ensures a custom fit. That in turn helps to not only make the control inputs as precise as possible. The user feels what the robot feels. So when handling an object with the robotic arm, the user can sense how hard the arm is gripping the object. The robot arm can amplify the force exerted by the user to make it a much stronger analog for the human’s movement, but the super-precise feedback between human and machine allowed by the 3-D printed glove ensures that this boost in strength is kept under perfect control.

Summer Plans

During my summer I planed to do many things that don't evolve school work. For example I  plan to go  on  vacation and eat, sleep, and relax. The place that i would enjoy going to the most the the beautiful country of  Porto Rico. I went there last year and it was really fun and now I would like to go back again. Te places I like going to the most in Porto Rico is the rain forest. The rain forest that my family and I go to is El Yunque. After awhile my family and I will leave to go see our cousins. A then funally after the week is iver we will head back home to the states.
